Gay Chat's Safety Tips
Our top aim here at Gay Chat is to keep you safe while chatting on our chat server. We do as much as we can to protect you by having state of the art chatting robots which patrol the rooms to look for any unwanted behaviour. We also have an extremely dedicated and experienced moderating team who are working around the clock to keep the rooms a safe environment. Obviously there is only so much we can do to keep you safe, you have to keep to your end or the bargain! Below we have drawn up some tips that will help you keep safe online, please also use common sense as this is the best tool for keeping safe online!
Keeping Personal Information Personal
Believe it or not, YOU are your biggest threat online. People will only know the information about you that you want them to know. If you do not want people to know your real name or your full name, this is completely up to you, we advise that you just use your first name or a middle name as no one will be able to pin a name down onto you. When giving out your location we also recommend that you just give the area that you are living in and not detailed information such as the exact town or village, in big cities where there are millions of people this is ok. Giving out email addresses is ok, but beware that people may spam your inbox with rubbish so we suggest you make an alternate email just for keeping in touch with your chatting friends! Giving out your home address or the location you work at is a strictly forbidden.Meeting Other Chatters
This is generally not recommended as you never know who you are chatting to online, but we understand that some of you who live close will want to meet. What we suggest for this is that you meet at a busy time of day in a busy place that will be full of other people. It is also advisable to take along a friend just to be safe.Staying in a room for your age group
We design rooms for different age ranges on purpose, this is to allow chatters to have the option to stay in the room that is just dedicated for their age. This is more for our younger chatters than anyone else, to keep them safe. Anyone older found in a younger room risks being banned from the chat site and reported to government officials.External Links
From time to time you will see people post links to other websites within the main rooms and private chats. We suggest that you do not click on these. Some will be viruses that can infect your computer, others will be scams to try and get money out of you. If you find someone spamming links please contact the room moderator. Remember that we do not have control of the content of external links so can not guarantee that they are safe. Some sites such as Myspace URLS and other big social networking sites can be trusted at your own risk.If you feel unsafe
If you ever feel unsafe while on our server please do not hesitate to contact the moderator of the room. If a moderator is not available please visit the #Help room where a member of our dedicated help team will assist you.If anyone is trying to grab personal information from you, or is pressurising you to get information out of you, please stick this member on ignore and report this activity to a member of staff immediately.
